Deep

Deep, I am deep, I am oh so deep.
I am deeper than the E’s that fill that word.
I am deeper than the pees of a drunken hoard
Who having drunk deep are as drunk as lord
Which is so damn deep it is frankly absurd
If it went any deeper it would be interred.

And shallow I am shallow, like a fluffy marshmallow.
They call me mallow yallow and they’re quite right too.
Yes, shallow as a puddle, as a puddle made of piddle
That has dribbled down the middle of an off-white wall.

Pensive, I am pensive, I am labour intensive
Though my oeuvre’s not extensive
Au contraire, it’s rather small.
Pensive as a pains-took, pent-up pen pusher
Pushing at the piled up plethora of platitudes;
Suffering from the self-taught torture of ineptitude;
Damned by what I didn’t do and doubting what I’ve done.

Cheap, I am cheap, I am chirpy cheap cheap.
Cheaper than a chip shop cheap-skate deal,
A few quid down for a ship shape meal.
I don’t know about you but I know how I feel,
That’s pretty good going when all is said and done
‘Cos I woke up this morning and my momma was gone.

Ooo – eee, chirpy chirpy cheap cheap,
Shallow on the shit heap, talking like I’m dirt cheap,
Talking ‘til I’m done.
Ooo – eee, find it and you weep weep,
Road runner ‘Meep! Meep!’ Did I say I’m deep deep?
Did I say I’m dumb?

Cheap. Deep. Shallow. Pensive.
Some. Times. Appre. Hensive.
Shallow. Deep. Pensive. Cheap.
Never. Eat. Shredded. Wheat.

And cheap and deep and shallow and pensive
And fierce and fast and anal retentive;
And hurt and whole and glibly cynical
And lost and late and gladly gullible;
And arrogant and fraudulent, articulate and passionate
And sensitive and negative, incompetent and confident;
And all of these and none of these
And many more beside of these;
And very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very
Egocentric.

Deeper than the E’s that fill that word,
I am a voice that longs to be heard.
